All the banknotes of New Mahatma Gandhi Series has a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, with a picture of Ashoka Pillar Emblem on the obverse and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan logo printed on the reverse.



On November 8 2016, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2,000 banknotes. The new ₹2,000 note has Magenta base colour. The denomination has a motif of the Mars Orbiter Mission, depicting the country's first venture into interplanetary space logo printed on the backside. The new ₹500 banknote has an image of the Red Fort with a Stone grey base colour and the Indian flag on the backside of the note.

                                           

On August 18 2017, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹50 banknotes. The new ₹50 has the Cyan base colour. On the backside, the denomination has a Hampi with chariot image printed. On August 18 2017, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹200 banknotes. The new ₹200 banknote has the Orange base colour; On the backside, the denomination has the Sanchi Stupa image printed.

 

On January 5 2018, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹10 banknotes. The new ₹10 has the Brown base colour. On the backside, the denomination has a Konark Sun Temple image printed. On July 19 2018, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹100 banknotes. The new ₹100 banknote has the Lavender base colour; On the backside, the denomination has the Rani ki Vav image printed.

 

On April 26 2019, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹20 banknotes. The new ₹20 has the Yellow base colour, and on the backside, the denomination has an Ellora Caves image printed.

All the banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi Series have a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on the right side of the note with a picture of Ashoka Pillar Emblem on the left side of the obverse. In January 2014 RBI announced that all currency notes printed before 2005 by March 31, 2014, would be withdrawing from circulation, the deadline was later extended to January 1, 2015, and further extended to 2016 June 30. The denominations ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, and ₹100  of Mahatma Gandhi Series are in circulation along with the New Mahatma Gandhi Series of banknotes.



On November 2000, The RBI released the new ₹1000, and this note has Amber-Red base colour. On the backside, the denomination has an image of the Economy of India printed. On October 2000, The RBI released the new ₹500, and this note has Orange and Yellow base colour. On the backside, the denomination has an image of Dandi March printed.

 

On November 8 2016, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi and RBI announced that Govt of India demonetized ₹ 500 and ₹1000 denominations from the Mahatma Gandhi Series. On November 10 2016, RBI announced that the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2000 banknotes of New Mahatma Gandhi Series.

                                           

On 1996 RBI announced the issuance of ₹100 and ₹50 banknotes as a part of Mahatma Gandhi Series. The ₹100 has the Blue & Green colours at centre, Brown & Purple colours on both sides. On the backside, the denomination has a Himalaya Mountains image printed. The ₹50 banknote has the Violet base colour and has the Parliament of India image on reverse.

RBI announced the issuance of new ₹20 banknotes on August 2001 and ₹10 banknotes on 1996 as a part of the (OLD) Mahatma Gandhi Series. The ₹20 has the Red-Orange, and ₹10 has the Orange and Violet base colours. The denomination of ₹20 has a Mount Harrier, Port Blair and the denomination of ₹10 have printed Rhinoceros, Elephant, Tiger images. On July 19 2018, The RBI announced the issuance of new ₹100 banknotes. On 1996 RBI has introduced the ₹5 banknotes as a part of the Mahatma Gandhi Series.
